The merger between US Bancorp and First Bank Systems Inc has led to the layoff of thousands of bank employees. While US Bancorp CEO Gerry Cameron received millions of dollars in severance pay as a result of the merger, ordinary workers are being dismissed in other companies without enough compensation. The government is not helping the working poor either. The US Congress has approved a tax and budget plan that would only benefit big business rather than the middle class.
